The first of our exam weeks has arrived... faster than I would have imagined. This year has flown by.
I can always tell when spring has sprung and exam weeks are near by two big changes in the library:
1. The study carrels are full of ... PEOPLE. Some carrels had been practically abandoned, but not last week and this week. Everyone is busy with last minute projects and studying. I noticed the reference tables were full this morning with students and their laptops.
2. Many of the young men in the library are "socializing" a LOT with the young ladies. I see lots of evidence that it is true what "they" say: in the spring a young man's thoughts turn to baseball and romance. Well, I wish them well as they put in their last ditch efforts to win the girl of their dreams before she goes off for the summer!
Seriously, there is not much the library staff can do for the students during exams, but what we can do, we will do. We'll stay open an extra hour every night so they can get those extra few minutes of studying in. And some nights we may even provide coffee. This year our budget won't let us put out snacks, but hopefully next year we can do that again.
It's encouraging to see so many students in the library. At CIU, at least, the library and the book are not dead!
