I read an interesting article this morning about popular destinations for students studying abroad in recent years. As I think about it, I can see why some of the locales are so popular. Cost of living/studies and uniqueness of culture are listed as reasons to choose certain locations. I think living and studying overseas is a wonderful opportunity for a student to get a broader worldview than our narrow American experience. I say "narrow" because so many Americans seem adverse to other nationalities participating in our culture.
I remember that when I lived overseas some 30 years ago, the people among whom I was living were very kind to me and very patient with my inexperience and lack of knowledge about their culture. As a result, I have only fond memories, even of the not so fond experiences I had. And my appreciation of their culture and customs grew rapidly in those early weeks and months.
Living abroad can have a very favorable effect on us. I highly recommend the experience... IF one goes into it with a mind to listen, watch and learn. That is one reason the Fleece Library keeps several reference books about study opportunites on the shelves.
I was, quite frankly, surprised at some the countries in the list. The countries topping the list in the article I read were:
1. France
2. Japan
3. Italy
4. Spain
5. Germany
6. Australia
7. England
8. Greece
9. Madagascar
10. Malaysia
11. Egypt
12. Ecuador
13. Ghana
14. Thailand
15. Israel
