Changes and challenges

The end of another semester has arrived for undergraduates as of today, the last day of exams for them, and it is fast approaching for the graduate school and seminary, with their exams ending on May 18. It has been a busy year for them all, just as it has been for the library staff.

We have seen a lot of changes and challenges this past school year:
*negotiations for the purchase of a new library computer system (it will be implemented, Lord willing, in January 2008);
*negotiations for the formation of a new shared system group with six other private colleges/universities in the state (this saved us a very sizable amount on the cost of the new computer system);
*barcode label project to put bar codes on all our collection in anticipation of the new computer system (we have spent almost 700 hours on this project since December and have applied almost 115,000 labels);
*established three new blogs, including one exclusively for listing interesting new items the library has acquired;
*wrote a new copyright policy that will be posted on the library webiste soon;
*rewrote our collection development policy in order to be more comprehensive and useful;
*extended our library hours to midnight Monday-Thursday and continued our extended hours during exams til 1:00 am;
*made a major shift in our book collection to make more room for resources (we are running out of space) and replaced 800 of our book ends;
*purchased a new collection of religious eBooks.

I guess that list is long enough for now. I have probably forgotten something, but I know from this list you can see how much God has blessed us this year.
