Change is the name of the game in the Fleece Library this summer as we reorganize our work flow and tasks throughout the entire library staff.
We are doing this for several reasons, but the end result is a lot of change behind the scenes, most (if not all) of which will make us more efficient... a more well-oiled machine, so to speak!
One of the changes that has not been easy has been saying goodbye to a good friend and dedicated colleague, Marilyn Morrison. Marilyn retired on June 30 after many years of work in the library as Gift Acquisitions Librarian. It was Marilyn's job to process all donations.
Marilyn's departure from the staff brought about the next big change for us... the creation of a new position: Reference Specialist for Acquisitions. This position has been filled by Nancy Brown, who had been working in the library office. Nancy has an M.L.S. from the University of South Carolina. It will be Nancy's job to manage the entire acquisitions process for the library, which includes donations, purchases and periodicals.
In addition to this change, Tony Rossodivita has taken on the responsibility of liaison for the Kirkland Prison Initiative Library, replacing Kevin Flickner. Kevin did a great job, but he is taking over the interlibrary loan function as part of the circulation department beginning July 1, so he will have his hands full, especially when we begin the PASCAL Delivers program in late August... the statewide academic delivery program. Between the ILL and the PD programs, I think Kevin and his crew will be busy.
Another big change for me personally is the delay in hiring a new administrative assistant for several months. That means yours truly has to re-learn all the office duties such as paying the bills and ordering supplies. Thanks to my gracious and cooperative staff I have been able to "farm out" some of the duties to them, but the basic jobs will be mine for a while. Although I have always appreciated the work the administrative assistant does, I am sure I will appreciate it even more after 6-9 months!
