I came across a very interesting article from the NY Times this morning... about the librarian at the Iraq National Library and Archive in Baghdad. The director of the library/archives has been writing a journal over the past couple of years and it has been released since the death of Saddam Hussein. The article includes a picture of burned out filing cabinets that would make anyone cringe.
An example of what he has written is his report on the effect of the continuing violence on his staff for just the month of December. It included 4 assassinations of employees and 2 kidnappings, 66 murders of staff members’ relatives, 58 death threats and 51 displacements.
